Effect of crop rotation and straw application in combination with mineral nitrogen fertilization on soil carbon sequestration in the Thyrow long-term experiment Thy_D5

Abstract Aims The aim of study was to quantify the temporal change soil organic carbon content in relation agricultural management for a dry sandy arable and derive C sequestration potential. Methods We analyzed data from long-term field experiment with three crop rotations different cereal proportions, two levels straw application (removal/return) combination four mineral nitrogen rates (40 … 160 kg ha -1 yr ). Treatments are arranged two-factorial block design replicates each rotation. During 24-year period, grain yield test crops topsoil were determined annually plot. Results Soil positively influenced by removing non-cereal rotation – smaller extent application. Increasing N-fertilization 40 higher increased rye but not barley, both cereals more, no effect yields on content.
